One of the most exciting parts of attending the 2026 POMA Summit is the opportunity to step out of the meeting room and into the field.
This year’s Summit will take place May 26–28 at Wild Wings of Oneka in Hugo, Minnesota, bringing together outdoor media professionals and industry partners for three days of networking, education and hands-on experiences.
As part of registration, attendees will have the opportunity to select one of four exclusive Summit Experiences, each designed to highlight the outdoor traditions that unite the POMA community—hunting, shooting and fishing. These curated outings offer members a chance to connect with fellow professionals, experience the outdoors together and create authentic stories and content along the way.
Because each experience has limited capacity, early registration is strongly encouraged so attendees can secure their preferred outing. The Turkey Hunt Experience is only open to six Media Members, who will be chosen at random. You must register by March 31 to enter to be selected.
Here’s a closer look at the experiences available to Summit attendees.
Range Experience
The Range Experience offers attendees the opportunity to spend a morning on the firing line testing firearms and connecting with fellow shooting sports enthusiasts.
Participants will have the chance to handle and shoot a variety of firearms while interacting with industry representatives and fellow POMA members. Whether you cover firearms professionally or simply enjoy time at the range, this experience provides valuable hands-on exposure to equipment and techniques in a controlled environment.
The Range Experience will also allow participants the opportunity to test their skills in a special game that replicates shooting sports like USPSA’s Steel Challenge and Rimfire Challenge. For $5 per attempt, shooters will compete against others for the top spot and a special prize.
Beyond the shooting itself, the Range Experience creates an ideal setting for networking, storytelling and gathering ideas for future editorial coverage.
This Experience has no limit to the number of participants.
This Experience is sponsored by NSSF – The Firearm Industry Trade Association.
Fishing Experience
For those who prefer time on the water, the Fishing Experience offers a memorable outing targeting local species in Minnesota’s waters.
Participants will travel to area waters for a guided fishing trip where they can enjoy a relaxing morning casting lines, connecting with fellow members and capturing authentic fishing content. It’s an opportunity to experience the region’s angling opportunities firsthand while building relationships with other outdoor communicators and industry partners.
Whether you’re a lifelong angler or simply enjoy time on the water, this excursion promises great scenery, great conversation and the chance to create new stories.
This Experience is only open to Media Members (no Corporate Partners or spouses/guests) and has a maximum of 20 participants.
This Experience is sponsored by the American Sportfishing Association, onX Fish and FishDonkey.
Turkey Hunt Experience
The Turkey Hunt Experience offers Summit attendees a unique opportunity to pursue one of North America’s most iconic game birds.
Participants will head into the field for a guided turkey hunt, experiencing the thrill of spring turkey hunting while learning from experienced hosts and connecting with fellow POMA members who share a passion for conservation and hunting traditions.
For writers, photographers and broadcasters who cover hunting, this experience provides authentic field time and valuable storytelling opportunities.
This Experience has a maximum of six participants and is only open to Media Members (no Corporate Partners or spouses/guests). Participants will be chosen by a random drawing. Media attendees who register for the Summit by March 31 may enter to be selected for this opportunity.
This Experience is sponsored by the National Wild Turkey Foundation (NWTF) and Murray Road Agency.
Sporting Clays Experience
If you enjoy shooting sports but prefer a fast-paced and social environment, the Sporting Clays Experience delivers exactly that.
Participants will navigate a course designed to simulate a variety of hunting scenarios, providing a fun and challenging shooting experience. Sporting clays are an ideal activity for both experienced shooters and newcomers alike.
This outing is a great way to sharpen shooting skills, enjoy friendly competition and spend time networking with fellow Summit attendees in a relaxed outdoor setting.
You will need to pay $25 to participate in this Experience at Wild Wings of Oneka (WWO). WWO is a non-toxic shot facility, so no lead shells are allowed. They do have ammo available for $15/box, and you will need two boxes to complete a round of clays. At this time, you will need to provide your own shotgun.
This Experience has no limit to the number of participants.
