Through the weekends of Feb. 5-7 and Feb. 12-14, a group of over 980 youth cadets participated in the annual JROTC Three-Position Service Championships – part two of the annual JROTC Air Rifle Championship series.
Facilitated by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), the JROTC Three-Position Service Championship is a two-day 3x20 air rifle competition for sporter and precision athletes. Competitors fire 20 record shots from three positions (kneeling, prone and standing) over two qualification days, followed by a top eight final at each location to determine award winners.
Matches are held simultaneously in the north, south and western regions of the country, separated by service. Army Service Championships were held at the Judith Legerski CMP Competition Center in Alabama, the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center in Ohio as well as in Utah, utilizing CMP’s mobile electronic target system. The U.S. Marine Corps Championship was also held in Utah, while Alabama additionally hosted Air Force and Space Force cadets.
This year, for the first time, the JROTC Service Championships included a second western location in Columbia, MO, for the Navy and Coast Guard competitions. The CMP would like to thank the Missouri Marksmanship Education Center for allowing the use of their facility for the event.
