Mike Johnson

Professional Qualifications: I have been working in outdoor TV and video production since 2008. My work has been broadcast on Discovery Channel, ESPN2, ESPN News, NBCSports, Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel, Pursuit Channel, and World Fishing Network. I currently produce The Fish Guyz, a saltwater fishing show airing on Discovery, ESPN2, ESPN News, and WFN. Beyond hunt/fish TV, I also produce, shoot, and edit corporate, documentary, and commercial content, along with being a certified scuba instructor and underwater cinematographer.

Background: I grew up hunting and fishing with my dad and grandpa, and was able to turn that passion into a career in the outdoors. I now have a wife and 5 kids who all enjoy the outdoors. Deer season is a family event for us, we prefer primitive camping over glamping, and are working towards a suburban homestead.

Why I want to be on the POMA board: I want to help position POMA to be a leading organization in providing opportunities for young people - middle school through recent college grads - to learn and connect in the outdoor media space. We all know that all segments of the outdoor industry will falter without recruitment of the next generation. As media professionals, I believe it is our responsibility to train up the next generation of young media professionals, whose voices will be much better received by their peers than our own voices would.
