Shakopee, MN (November 11, 2025 ) Steelhead Outdoors rolls out an under bed gun safe featuring a Simplex lock. This is another American-made Steelhead gun safe solution keeping firearms safely secured, accessible and out of sight. The Simplex Undercover 48X features a fast access, Genuine Simplex mechanical lock offering quick access without relying on electronics, batteries, or keys. This lock is available with over 2,000 possible combination. Simplex locks are also vehicle-friendly because they aren’t affected by temperature, like cold weather. The safe body and door are built with full 12-gauge American steel with a textured, durable black powdercoat finish. The anti-pry drawer door is recessed to protect the lock dial and improve pry resistance. The Undercover horizontal safe features a drawer with 250 lb. rated ball bearing drawer slides. The locking mechanism includes a proprietary gear-driven, 7-point locking mechanism and slip clutch protection for enhanced security against pry and smash attacks.
All Undercover 48 safes are designed to slide discreetly under most beds, measuring 48” wide x 6” tall x 16” deep. Inside, a spacious drawer provides secure storage for rifles, handguns, and other valuables, with interior dimensions of 46” wide x 4” tall x 13” deep. A 3/8” padded foam base keeps items protected from scratches and damage. The safe includes cable slots on both the left and right sides, allowing single or dual cable use. These slots are compatible with Steelhead’s 3-foot and 6-foot heavy-duty security cables. The unit also features four matching anchor holes on both the top and bottom, giving options for top-mount, bottom-mount, or stacked installation. While perfect for under-bed storage, the Undercover 48 can also be placed in other locations, such as closets, mudrooms, under benches, inside cabinetry, or even secured in vehicles. Its rugged steel construction and enhanced security features make it a reliable fast-access supplement to a full-size gun safe, or a standalone storage solution for a couple of rifles, shotguns, or pistols. Another underbed option is the Undercover 48E featuring a biometric Securam Scanlogic Lock with fingerprint and combination access. This UL-listed high security lock is paired with dual hardplate protection. Available for $1,300 with free shipping to the Lower 48 states.
