Outdoor Stewards Introduces Donate A Deer Program During National Wild Game Meat Donation Month

Posted on: Nov 25, 2024

Outdoor Stewards of Conservation Foundation is reaching out to hunters across the country with information about donating an extra harvest to help solve the hunger crisis in America with their new Donate A Deer program.

OSCF’s “Donate A Deer” program is in alignment with National Wild Game Meat Donation Month that was introduced by the NRA’s Hunters’ Leadership Forum in 2023.

Research from the Hunters’ Leadership Forum identified that American hunters currently donate more than 64 million meals worth of wild game meat each year. Unfortunately, with 34 million Americans facing food insecurity daily, more donations are needed. The Donate a Deer program serves as a reminder that every contribution will make a difference.

The National Wild Game Meat Donation Month initiative also emphasizes the value of connecting hunters with non-hunters. Research indicates that sharing wild game with non-hunters can enhance cultural acceptance of hunting and increase support for conservation efforts. By inviting friends and family who do not hunt to share a wild game meal, hunters can raise awareness of the environmental and community benefits of their practices.

This season, OSCF asks hunters that, should the opportunity arise to take an extra harvest, they consider donating it. There are many butchers and organizations across the country that accept game meat donations. Hunters can access the Hunters for the Hungry website to find additional information on how to donate extra game meat.

Outdoor Stewards of Conservation Foundation thanks you for being stewards of conservation and for helping solve the hunger crisis in America by donating a deer.
