CMP’s Junior Rifle Club for All Skill Levels Opens in September

Posted on: Sep 10, 2025

PORT CLINTON, Ohio; ANNISTON, Ala. – The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is ready to host another session of its informative Junior Rifle Clubs – a weekly group that introduces firearm safety, marksmanship fundamentals, air rifle competition experience and life skills through fun instruction on the range!

The 10-week Fall Session will begin Tuesday, Sept. 23, and will be held within the CMP’s indoor electronic air ranges at the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center (Ohio) and the Judith Legerski CMP Competition Center (Alabama). Each session is conducted by CMP’s qualified employees who are former NCAA Division I rifle athletes!

Participants in these beneficial clubs not only learn about the sport of marksmanship but also character building proficiencies like discipline, self-control, goal setting and more – all with an emphasis on safety. No prior experience is necessary to join!

The Junior Rifle Club will be conducted every Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. in Ohio and 4-6 p.m. in Alabama. Cost is $50, plus the price of pellets. Equipment is provided by the CMP, if needed.

The Ohio club is led by CMP’s Ryan Hinson, who was an athlete at Morehead State University, and Alana Kelly, who was previously a member at the University of Mississippi. Those attending the camp in Alabama will receive personal instruction from CMP’s own JT Schnering, who was an athlete at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and the assistant rifle coach at the University of Nebraska.

Those within the club will also receive a free t-shirt and entry into each location’s Nov. 15 Monthly Match.
