CMP Introduces Redesigned Fall Marksmanship Competition in Alabama

Posted on: Sep 11, 2025

ANNISTON, Ala. – The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is excited to announce a new fall marksmanship tradition – the Alabama Airgun & Smallbore Cup! The match is set to take place Oct. 9-12, 2025, at the Judith Legerski CMP Competition Center in Alabama.

Mirroring and taking place of the annual Dixie Double event, the Alabama Airgun & Smallbore Cup (AASC) features two days of 60 Shot air rifle and air pistol competitions for adults and juniors, along with a final to end the second day. Additionally, a two-person (adult and junior pair) aggregate team match is held concurrently with the open competition.

“The Dixie Double was a celebrated event on the CMP’s yearly air gun competition schedule, and we are confident the Alabama Airgun & Smallbore Cup will uphold that same reputation,” said JT Schnering, CMP’s Judith Legerski CMP Competition Center manager. “We’re thrilled to again welcome novice competitors as well as world-class athletes to our ranges to take part in this esteemed event.”

Outside of the regular air gun matches, a two-day, 50-meter three-position smallbore rifle competition will also be held just down the road from the Competition Center at CMP’s Talladega Marksmanship Park, while a fun-filled Target Sprint (combining marksmanship and running) will take place back in Anniston.

All matches will be held on CMP’s indoor and outdoor eTargets. The AASC has been consciously designed to be an ideal setting for upcoming competitors to gain real competition practice and serves as a worthwhile challenge for experienced marksmen and women. We hope to see everyone in Alabama for this revamped air gun and smallbore experience!
