Position Summary
As the Director, Digital Content you will play a pivotal role in shaping and managing the digital content landscape for the National Audubon Society. You will be responsible for developing and executing content strategies across various digital platforms, with a primary focus on our organization’s website and other owned digital products. This role requires a creative, strategic thinker with a deep understanding of content strategy, brand alignment, and audience engagement. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our digital content effectively communicates our brand message, engages our target audience, and delivers on our member and advocacy goals for the organization.
Compensation
Salary range based on geo-differentials:
- $125,000-$135,000/year = Alaska, CA (not San Francisco), Connecticut, D.C., Chicago, Oyster Bay, NY
- $150,000-$160,000/year = NYC (not Oyster Bay), San Francisco, Seattle
Essential Functions
- Content Strategy Development: Develop and execute a comprehensive digital content strategy that aligns with the organization's goals, brand identity, and target audience, including member and advocacy engagement, serving our audience's passion for birds and the protection of their habitats.
- Website/ Digital Product Management: Oversee the content creation, curation, and maintenance of the organization’s main website audubon.org and other digital products/ applications (e.g., Bird Migration Explorer, Audubon app). Collaborate with the Digital Products team to ensure it is user-friendly and work with the Content and Communications teams to ensure that it remains up-to-date and aligned with the overall content strategy.
- Audience Segmentation: Working with Data Team, Digital Products Team, and Member and Advocacy Engagement Team, analyze and segment the target audience to tailor content to their preferences and needs, ensuring maximum engagement and relevance.
- Content Creation: Collaborate with content creators, including writers, designers, and multimedia producers, to generate high-quality content, including articles, videos, infographics, and more. Serve as the bridge for content across platforms, working with Digital Editorial Director to find successful executions for print content on the web and to adapt successful web features for the magazine.
- SEO and Analytics: Monitor website performance through SEO analysis and analytics tools to optimize content for search engines and user experience in collaboration with the Digital Products team.
- Content Distribution: Develop and implement strategies for content distribution across various digital platforms, including social media, email marketing, and other external communication channels. Collaborate with technology, marketing and direct response team to help set and meet engagement goals for content.
- Brand Consistency: Ensure all digital content adheres to the company's brand guidelines and maintains a consistent tone and voice.
- Content Calendar: Create and manage a content calendar to plan and schedule content releases, campaigns, and promotions for digital properties collaborating with our social media team
- Technology Partnership: Act as primary partner with Digital Product and Data Teams as it applies to website management, audience segmentations, SEO and Analytics, and establishing and achieving cross-organizational engagement goals.
- Budget Management: Manage the digital content budget, allocating resources effectively to achieve content goals and objectives.
Qualifications And Experience
- Bachelor's degree in marketing and communications or related field.
- 10+ years’ experience digital content strategy. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
- Ability to manage deadlines and budgets collaborating across freelance contributors and internal content developers spread through organization.
- Comfortable working within a CMS to manage content, and have similar comfort with basic markup for the web and the tools of digital publishing.
- Experience using Google Analytics, Chartbeat, Heap, and social analytics tools to evaluate success of each piece and continually refine strategy.
- The candidate does not need existing expertise in birds per se, but should be generally confident and curious in the subject matters of environment/science.
