Position: Full-time Assistant Manager with the opportunity for advancement.
Description: Galveston Fishing Company is a full-service fly fishing shop that strives to be at the center of our fly fishing community. Located on beautiful Galveston Island in Texas we are the only fly shop on the island. Though we specialize in saltwater fly fishing, we offer knowledge, gear, and service for all aspects of the sport. We carry and work with all the top brands in our industry. Galveston Fishing Company is also very involved in education by offering monthly fly tying and fly fishing classes. We also offer booking services for guided trips with our guide partners. We are seeking a person that is looking for a career in the fly fishing industry; that is willing to learn all aspects of the business; be dedicated to the operation of the shop and its services; and is a hard worker who is conscientious, responsible, and trustworthy. This position can be a stepping-stone to advancement.
Requirements:
- Actively involved and passionate about fly fishing
- Desire to help people
- Willingness to engage with both the fly fishing and non-angling community
- Independently motived and a self-starter
- Skilled communicator with customers, business associates, and staff
- People management skills
- Available on weekends and some holidays
- High School Degree or higher
Job Duties:
- Customer service and sales of products and services relative to a fly shop, both in person and online, to include but not limited to technical proficiency with fly fishing equipment including lining and cleaning reels; helping customers with rod, reel, and line selection; and guiding customers in technical clothing selections.
- Maintain shop cleanliness, organization, and product merchandising standards
- Perform routine retail duties including conducting inventory counts, processing shipments, labeling, etc.
- Plan and execute aspects of the shop’s marketing to include social media, email newsletter, and promotions
- Event planning and execution
- Organize/teach classes on fly tying and fly fishing
- Booking customers on guided trips and into lodging associated with the shop
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge and use of the Microsoft Office Suite, primarily Excel and Word.
- Interact with retail software (Point-of-Sale, Inventory Management)
- Website management
