♦  Attend networking events. These events don’t have to be events for Public Relations and communication professionals. Attend outdoor seminars and popular events; you’ll probably meet someone who at least knows someone in the industry they can introduce you to.

♦  Join conservation and media organizations. POMA is a great source to meet other likeminded professionals in the industry. Volunteer with these organizations, not only will you build your resume, but you make valuable contacts in the industry.

♦  Utilize social media and build your personal brand online. Network with professionals online, retweet their tweets (with your own thoughts), share their posts on LinkedIn, etc. Participate in discussions, start your own blog and build a portfolio to share with others.

♦  Intern or volunteer! This will build your resume and give you more in-the-field experience as well as the opportunity to network and develop business relationships.

♦  Strive to be constantly learning. Keep up with your writing skills, learn AP style, take a public speaking class or learn more about leadership. These skills can translate to any job and make you a great candidate in an interview.
