For a conference, you really just need a basic, high-level goal such as, “I’m here to learn,” or “I want to meet people” -- you don’t need to get into the nitty-gritty details. Having a high-level goal will help you figure out what to do at the conference to get the most bang for your buck.
And even when you do go to a conference with a goal in mind, you have to be ready to pivot and change up your plan. For example, I once attended a conference where my goal was simply to learn.
