Earn Your Audience

Posted: September 12, 2023
Last fall, I started a hunting and fly-fishing blog. It was my first leap into the world of outdoor writing, managing a public persona, and getting judged by people I'd never met. For an introvert and a perfectionist, it was a frightening time (even if my following never surpassed 300 people). Those of you who pay the bills by way of writing and managing media know that audiences these days want entertainment, and they want it now.  There's a reason I have been instructed to keep this column under 400 words... That being said, I believe it is still possible to gain a large following without selling your soul. Below is an article from WritersDigest.com that highlights some tips on audience retention. I hope these help you gain and retain an audience slightly larger than my little blog boasts.

15 Ways to Earn your audience as a writer

Your best and most noble path to developing an audience as a writer is by having something awesome (or many awesome somethings) to give them. Tell the best story you can tell. Above all the social-media posturing and brand building and outreach, you need a great “thing” (book, movie, comic, whatever) to be the core of your authorial ecosystem. Tell a great story. Achieve optimal awesomeness. Build audience on the back of your skill, talent, and devotion. Click "here" for more helpful tips!
