A Shift in Trusted News Organizations

Younger Americans' loyalty to trusted news organizations is shifting away from traditional news sources to social media. Readers under the age of 30 have the highest trust in social media news than ever before.
The Pew Research study by

Jeffrey Gottfried below highlights the disparity between ages, political motivations and educational level and its effect on the news appetite of Americans. Yet another reason for media to diversify the platforms in which they deliver news.
Americans have long been much more likely to trust information from local and national news organizations than information on social media sites. This remains the case today, except among the youngest adults. Adults under 30 are now almost as likely to trust information from social media sites as they are to trust information from national news outlets.
