February 6, 2014 (Johnstown, Pa.) - In a bipartisan vote, the United States House of Representatives passed the Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Act (H.R. 3590), with a vote of 268-154. The legislation includes critical protections for journalists who cover wildlife conservation, public lands issues and outdoor recreation.

Mentoring future generations of outdoor industry communicators is a key objective of POMA's mission. POMA Corporate Partner Leica Sport Optics joined POMA on its internship program, which affords college students opportunities to prepare for careers as outdoor communications professionals. Leica is the 2014-2015 title partner of the POMA/Leica Communications Internship Program. Funding from Leica is allocated to the intern’s compensation and other program-related expenses.

Many POMA members, outdoor industry professionals, and outdoorsmen have been the subject of threats on social media. Some so violent and graphic they make your skin crawl. The industry is so concerned that an impromptu meeting of industry representatives was held at the 2014 SHOT Show to discuss the situation and possible action.Now, the Supreme Court of the United States is involved. On June 16, 2014 the Supreme Court announced it would hear a case involving threats made over Facebook. Is this the case the outdoor industry has been waiting for to support?

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) reported (June 6, 2014) that a group of 40 pro-sportsmen's organizations sent a letter to the U.S. Senate urging passage of a bill that includes relief for journalists/media who need to film on public lands, but are being charged exorbitant fees or being denied access.
