In 2011, I also had several articles (regarding Illinois Fighting Illini football) published by Bleacher Report. Upon being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 2014, I began writing about my love of the outdoors (specifically hunting). In 2017, I was published twice by F+W Outdoors (Modern Hunter 2017 annual and Deer & Deer Hunting magazine). I am currently utilizing my GI Bill to pursue my B.A. in English. I expect to complete my degree by May 2019 and further pursue a career in outdoor media.

Doug Steinke
Grand Island, New York
Bio: My first memories of duck hunting were of being with my Father tucked away on a willow island along the Republican River in southern Nebraska. That same season I convinced my mother to buy my father a mallard duck decoy for a Christmas present. Even at the tender age of six, I knew there was something special about this hunting thing. Growing up in Central Nebraska, my best friend and I had great parents that would dump us off in the surrounding marshes and grain fields and we hunted everything from crows and pheasants, to coyotes. But it was all of the waterfowl that I saw that consumed me. Hardcore waterfowlers tend to gravitate to one another and over the past 30 years I have developed many long lasting hunting friendships. Great photography begins with great opportunities; my time spent with good friends nearly always results in quality photos, and quality memories
