SCI Makes Grant to Council in Support of Hunter Recruitment, Retention and Reactivation Program

Throughout the year, the Council develops and supports state, regional and national R3 efforts of its partners- such as state fish and wildlife agencies, industry members and other NGO’s  – to help expand efforts and increase the effectiveness of ongoing programs which are designed to introduce new individuals to hunting and recreational shooting and to maintain and grow the hunting community.  SCI provided its grant to help Council meet the growing costs of supporting these programs.

“The Council is fortunate to have the Safari Club International as a member of our Council Board of Directors and we are especially grateful for their support of our joint efforts to ensure we have hunting and recreational shooting sports for future generations.  SCI and the Council share a spirit of cooperation in recruiting, retaining and reactivating hunters and shooting sports participants and we believe our joint efforts demonstrate that partnerships are the most effective way of preserving our hunting traditions,” said John Frampton, CEO and President of the Council.

In making its grant, SCI challenged other non-governmental organization members of Council to consider making their own donations – in line with their financial abilities.  Several other partners immediately responded with a promise to make donations to the Council.  Since the Council began operating in 2010, funding for the Council has been primarily provided by voluntary contributions from state fish and wildlife agencies, non-governmental organizations and industry partners.

“SCI is pleased to support the Council to Advance the Hunting and Shooting Sports both financially and as a partner in promoting the national R3 efforts,” said SCI CEO W. Laird Hamberlin. “SCI members are at the forefront of the nation’s hunting community in working to increase the number of Americans enjoying the shooting sports and we look forward to working side by side with organizations, such as the Council, who share our vision.”

SCI works on behalf of its approximately 45,000 members to protect the freedom to hunt and promote wildlife conservation worldwide.  Much of SCI’s work on R3 is performed through SCI’s sister organization, the SCI Foundation whose missions are to fund and direct worldwide programs dedicated to wildlife conservation and outdoor education.

Safari Club International – First For Hunters is the leader in protecting the freedom to hunt and in promoting wildlife conservation worldwide. SCI’s approximately 200 Chapters represent all 50 of the United States as well as 106 other countries. SCI’s proactive leadership in a host of cooperative wildlife conservation, outdoor education and humanitarian programs, with the SCI Foundation and other conservation groups, research institutions and government agencies, empowers sportsmen to be contributing community members and participants in sound wildlife management and conservation.
