“Matt Knox has had an exemplary career as a wildlife biologist,” said Joe Hamilton, QDMA’s founder and senior advisor. “He and I worked with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources for a number of years before he accepted the position as deer project leader with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Matt’s dedication to his profession and devotion to deer hunters for several decades have not gone unnoticed, and I was proud to add him to the impressive list of recipients of the Joe Hamilton Lifetime Achievement Award.”

Knox has published nearly 200 technical, scientific and popular articles on white-tailed deer over his professional career and remains active in that arena. He was named the 2016 Wildlife Biologist of the Year by the Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies and was the recipient of the 2019 Career Achievement Award by the Southeast Deer Study Group.

Knox has also been a strong proponent of the Quality Deer Management philosophy and the QDMA since its beginnings in South Carolina, and he became Life Member of the organization in the late 1980s. He joins a distinguished group of former winners of the Lifetime Achievement Award that includes Fred Pape, Jimmy Bullock, Johnny Morris, Gary Alt, Judge Holdford, Robert Manning, Karl Miller, Grant Woods, David Guynn, Dave Samuel, Lewis Rogers, Charlie DeYoung, Harry Jacobson, Marion Burnside, Arthur Bentley, and Larry and Betty Marchinton.
