Part-time and occasional full-time writing, 1978-2000, when I worked for the Washington Department of Wildlife and other employers, then earned a PhD in Forestry (Wildlife Policy, 2000) from Utah State U. Full-time writing since, averaging more than 100 magazine articles annually over the last five years. I've authored 15 books. I initiated and for more than 30 years have written the Rifles & Cartridges column for RMEF's "Bugle" magazine. I've contributed columns for other magazines as well, currently "Guns," "Predator Xtreme," "African Hunting Gazette" and DSC's "Game Trails." I write regularly for B&C's "Fair Chase" and for "Sporting Classics." A masthead contributor to "SHOT Business," I write the Rifles section annually for "Gun Digest." Other titles that have carried my work include "Outdoor Life," "Field & Stream," "Sports Afield," "Petersen's Hunting," "Guns & Ammo," "Rifle," "Handloader," "Whitetail Journal," "Traditional Bowhunter, "The American Rifleman," "American Hunter," "Game & Fish," "American Frontiersman" and "Guns of the Old West."
