San Diego Area’s Poway Weapons & Gear Range Earns NSSF Five-Star Rating

“From the moment John broke ground, the range was intended to be the best there is. John backed that intent with research and a team of experts, an investment that has clearly paid off,” said Zach Snow, NSSF Director, Range Services. “This range stands as an exemplary model of what an NSSF Five-Star Range should be.”
Billed as “The largest indoor range and high-end gun store in San Diego,” and purported to be the third-largest indoor range in the country, Poway Weapons & Gear Range encompasses 42,000 square-feet and features three distinct and separate enclosed ranges. There’s a 16-lane 25-yard range next to an 18-lane 50-yard range, but an eight-lane 100-yard range — unique among indoor facilities — is what truly makes this shooting facility stand out. Add to that a 3,500 square-foot retail space, a million-dollar inventory, a do-it-all gunsmithing shop and a comprehensive training program that satisfies shooters novice to expert — all backed by a highly trained sales floor, range and back office staff constantly looking for ways to improve the customer experience and capitalize on emerging trends.
“Poway Weapons & Gear is proud that we are, once again, able to meet the strict Five-Star criteria and standards held by the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s Star Rating program,” said Phillips. “Our industry needs this kind of peer review and a rating system to hold every range owner accountable to their clientele. It isn’t the fancy showroom that begets a high rating. The true rating comes from the environmental stewardship, safety procedures and customer service practices that ensure our industry is represented in the best possible light.”
NSSF’s highly respected Star-Rating Range Program works to encourage ranges of all sizes and locations to excel. Applying for rating requires answering a comprehensive questionnaire and business owner self-evaluation of the facilities, staff, community outreach and other criteria. Ranges that appear to meet the criteria for Four- or Five-star rating receive an on-site evaluation by NSSF staff. NSSF member ranges that meet a Three-star rating are recognized for being a part of the Star-Rating range family and are provided guidance to improve their facilities and achieve the higher two ratings.
