Recently, the U.S. Senate passed a legislation that includes a number of items that are important to sportsmen. The Mule Deer Foundation has praised the Senate for the passing of this bill. Included in the legislation were provisions to the Bipartisan Sportsmen’s Bill, including the HUNT Act that would improve recreational hunting and fishing on public lands.
The Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) praised the U.S. Senate for passing comprehensive energy legislation that includes a number of items of importance to sportsmen. The bill that passed the Senate today by a vote of 97-0 includes provisions of the Bipartisan Sportsmen’s Bill, including the HUNT Act that would improve recreational hunting and fishing on public lands, as well as permanent reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation with some funding dedicated to securing sportsmen’s access. With the U.S. House of Representatives passage of the Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement Act or SHARE Act (H.R. 2406) in February, this sets the stage for potential final enactment of sportsmen’s legislation after many years.
“MDF appreciates the leadership of Senators Lisa Murkowski and Martin Heinrich for their hard work to ensure that these important sportsmen’s provisions were included within the energy bill. We’d also like to thank Senate leadership for securing unanimous consent on getting the sportsmen’s bill’s provisions added before final passage,” commented MDF President & CEO, Miles Moretti. “We have worked on these issues for many years and know that the House and Senate will be able to work through their differences to ensure that we finally see success on a bipartisan sportsmen’s bill in this Congress.”
