Hornady Manufacturing Co. Earns NSSF Medal of Freedom

The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association for the firearms industry, announced today that Hornady Manufacturing Company has been awarded NSSF’s Medal of Freedom for the company’s outstanding leadership in contributing $250,000 to the association’s 2016 voter registration and education campaign. This contribution was key in launching the #GUNVOTE fundraising campaign.
In the years following World War II, Joyce Hornady, the son of a pastor and a lifelong shooter and hunter, realized that the vast amounts of surplus war ammunition so many sport shooters utilized at the time was subpar. Working on a surplus bullet assembly press in a rented garage in Grand Island, Nebraska, Hornady began producing high-quality .30-caliber 150-grain bullets. That now-famous Spire Point is still a favorite among shooters, but today it is just one among hundreds of innovative and technologically advanced ammunition, bullets and reloading tools the company produces. Following the company’s “Ten bullets through one hole” philosophy, those offerings include the LEVERevolution, Superformance, and Precision Hunter rifle cartridges, Critical Duty and TAP FPD handgun brands, V-Max, InterLock and FTX component bullets and specialty muzzleloader products, as well as metallic and shotshell reloading presses well-regarded by today’s modern handloaders.

“Hornady has always demonstrated a commitment to the industry’s future that few other companies can match,” said Lawrence Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “With its substantial donation early in the #GUNVOTE fundraising effort, Hornady again proved its leadership and helped others to recognize the unprecedented threats to our industry’s survival so clearly evidenced in these elections now only a week away. Hornady always knows how to make a difference.”

“In this election for the first time in our nation’s history, we have a Presidential candidate who is openly running against the lawful commerce in firearms that is a prerequisite to our ability to exercise our Second Amendment rights,” said Stephen Hornady, President, Hornady Manufacturing Company. “We felt that it was vital that America’s hunters, target shooters and all gun owners become educated on what the candidates are saying and that’s why we were proud to be part of our industry’s #GUNVOTE initiative of our industry.”
NSSF’s #GUNVOTE – www.gunvote.org – is a voter registration and education platform for use by firearms industry manufacturers, wholesaler distributors, retailers, ranges and media members that helps gun owners, hunters and target shooters to register to vote, to become informed on where the candidates in 2016 stand on gun control and conservation issues, and encourages them on election day, armed with the facts, to #GUNVOTE so they do not risk their rights. Industry members are strongly encouraged to download the #GUNVOTE button for their websites and social media use and order #GUNVOTE decals for distribution to family, friends and customers.
