POMA is Working for its Members
Let POMA Work for You
As a full time freelance magazine writer and book author I spend a lot of time alone - in the office, traveling and in remote locations. POMA through its Briefs, Business Conference and webinars offers me a very valuable means of staying in communications/networking with others in my field.
The freelance lifestyle can cause a writer to become set-in-his-ways and stale without regular contact with other professionals. I depend on POMA for much of that contact and it pays off with fresh ideas, new projects, a growing list of professional friends/contacts, writing award opportunities and continuing education.
I can’t image a full time outdoor communicator not being an active member of POMA. In a job that can cut one off from much of the world, POMA brings the outdoor world to you.
Being a POMA Corporate Partner has been extremely beneficial for Prois. Not only are we able to get our gear in front of those who can help promote us, it is a great networking organization!

Why do I belong to POMA? The big reason is it doesn’t cost me anything. In fact, membership makes me money. By January 7 of this year, sales through Money Line covered my dues, so any additional income from contacts made through POMA will be pure profit.

"Like many POMA members, I wear a variety of hats. Part TV production, part public relations, part freelance writer, my job varies and I go where the day takes me. The associations I build, the contacts I make and the information I learn at POMA's Summer Business Conference helps me every step of the way. From negotiating fees for services Mossy Oak Productions may use, or setting fees my freelance efforts may earn, I lean on sessions and advice from mentors and peers at POMA.
When I'm brainstorming for new revenue ideas, I call upon the same, and when I'm shooting still photos to support my writing, POMA lessons weigh in again. I look forward to the conference each summer because, when you can do business with your friends, you know you're in the right place."

For years I avoided joining the professional writer’s organizations in favor of an independent approach to networking and relationship building. That worked well for a while, but then I hit a plateau. During that time I joined several writer's and media organizations.
While every one has contributed to my professional career, POMA has really distinguished itself from the others. The topics and outreach is always current and regular, Money Line is streamlined and timely, and the additional support topics are helpful and appropriate.
POMA is a group that must be run by writers, for their proactive approach in delivering quick and relevant information helps me to fast-track my processes and accomplish more work. Thanks for being a terrific business partner, POMA.

POMA is a money maker! A casual conversation at the POMA business conference turned into a friendship, and almost immediately, into a lucrative business deal for Gun Talk Media. In business, it's often about the contacts, and POMA provides quality contacts.

I have 7 articles publishing this week due to my association with POMA. Not to mention the numerous business opportunities from people that I have met. Just last week a company that I wanted to do some business with automatically jumped on board when he heard that I was a POMA member. I can't even begin to tell you how much business I did just this week due to my POMA connections.
I was stuck in a rookie outdoor writer rut. I needed encouragement from my peers, guidance from leading experts, and a mentor who genuinely cared if I succeed or failed. So, I joined POMA. Being welcomed with a smile and handshake followed by the question "What can we do for you?" has changed my career. Within four weeks, I landed a regular column assignment and five feature assignments that resulted in a great paycheck. Thanks POMA for giving me the tools I needed to take my career to the next level.
POMA generates income for me on an almost weekly basis, in a strange way.
Most members use Money Line as a job and freelance opportunity listing. I use it to generate editorial content ideas, especially for business/trade content buyers. Job listings offer tons of information about challenges faced by companies in our industry. I use those challenges as a basis to develop story ideas to pitch to editors/buyers. Thanks POMA for all you do!
I am new to the industry, and I know there is a lot of water left to tread before I find my own sweet little island. However, because of POMA and the commitment and conviction of its founding members, I now have more confidence and better tools than I could have imagined receiving from any other source. For any new or struggling outdoor writer, photographer or outdoor content provider, “The best advice I can give is to join up with POMA. There is nothing else I can tell you that will help you more than that”.
