The Diamond Cornerstone Award

The Diamond Cornerstone Award recognizes the SCI’s and The Outdoor Channel’s contributions to the launch of POMA. POMA is a professional communicator's organization focused on the traditional outdoor sports of fishing, shooting, hunting and trapping that was launched in June 2005.

In just seven months, POMA already is considered the premier media organization in the outdoor industry and boasts 300 Media and Corporate Partner members.

“POMA could not have made the leap from vision to reality without the incredible contributions of the SCI and The Outdoor Channel,” explains POMA Chairman/President Betty Lou Fegely. “They were integral to POMA’s launch.”

While the idea of a new media organization was being investigated by a steering committee*, SCI provided media members with a way to stay in the communication loop. SCI developed the Professional Outdoor Writer’s Registry (POWR) database and kept POWR members informed of the progress of the steering committee.

When the steering committee determined the need for a new media organization, both The Outdoor Channel and the SCI stepped up and provided POMA with seed money to launch the organization. The SCI also promoted the POMA launch to all POWR database members.

“SCI and TOC have been great friends to POMA,” says Laurie Lee Dovey, POMA management executive. “They truly are the cornerstones upon which the POMA foundation was built. No other Diamond Cornerstone Awards will be presented by POMA. Only The Outdoor Channel and the Safari Club International can lay claim to the prestigious designation as a POMA Diamond Cornerstone Member.”
