The award recognizes extraordinary achievements made in archery-related journalism and in support of the archery sports as defined by the career of Fred Bear.

Through POMA and ATA, media professionals and archery industry leaders partnered to choose the legendary communicator whose career and commitment to archery define the award and its future recipients.

The Hat

The symbol of the Fred Bear Archery & Bowhunting Communicator Award is a bronzed, signature Fred Bear Borsalino hat, complete with turkey feather and Pearly Everlasting wildflower adorning the hatband.

When the hat was presented to the first Fred Bear Award recipient, James Dougherty, he said, "I've always wanted one of Fred's hats. Now, I finally have one."
